The Little Kanawha River in Glenville. The Little Kanawha River is a tributary of the Ohio River, mi ( km) long,  in western West Virginia in the United States. Via the Ohio, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 2, mi² (6, km²)  on the unglaciated portion of the Allegheny Plateau. About 7 percent of all coal mined in the Nation comes from an area of 5, mi² in the Appalachian Plateaus part of the Kanawha–New River Basin.
